Google Remy AI was the internal codename for Google's always-on AI agent. Starting May 19, 2026, the product will be called Gemini Spark (I/O 2026) when your laptop is closed. It runs in the background and helps with the usual, emails, docs, briefs from meetings – even when your laptop is closed. And here’s the catch for German companies: the reports aren’t from Germany or the EEA. Here's what it is, what it costs, and what you can do instead. Status: October 2026.

What Is Google Remy AI?
Google Remy AI first appeared in leaks and a Business Insider report as a “24/7 personal agent” that Google staff were testing. Google then launched it as Gemini Spark and dropped the codename.
Not to be confused with apps on Google Play called Remy or RemyAI; they are different products.
According to Google, the Gemini app is used by over 900 million monthly users, making agents like Spark more accessible.
What Can Gemini Spark Do?
According to TechCrunch reports, Spark integrates with Google Workspace tools like Gmail, Docs, Slides, and more out of the box. Typical jobs include:
Working through your email and composing responses.
Converting the notes from the meeting into a typewritten document and sending an email.
Making a daily brief of what you need to be aware of.
Working with outside services, such as Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart.
Google also intends to launch a Spark version for the Gemini desktop app to enable it to access local files and automate desktop tasks.
According to Google, Spark will not spend any money or send an email without your permission. It is said that you use three blocks to steer: a task is a goal, a schedule is a trigger, and a skill is a set of instructions that can be reused.
From Remy to Spark: A Short Timeline
Before May 2026: Business Insider reports an internal 24/7 agent called Remy, tested by Google staff.
May 13 to 14, 2026: The Remy name disappears from the Google app beta, and Gemini Spark takes its place.
May 19, 2026: Google announces Gemini Spark at Google I/O.
Late May 2026: A US beta starts for Google AI Ultra subscribers.
Summer 2026: Spark comes to Chrome and more countries, but not to the EEA.
Why Did Google Build Remy?
Google calls Spark a shift from information to action. A chatbot answers your question. Spark does real work on your behalf and under your direction. Business Insider linked the idea to better model reliability, which makes more independent behavior possible.
Because Spark runs in Google's cloud, it keeps working even when your phone is locked or your laptop is closed. That makes it feel less like a search box and more like a helper.
Is Google Remy AI Available in Germany?
Not yet, according to the latest reports. Spark launched as a US beta. Later it opened in more than 160 countries, but reports say Germany and the whole EEA are still excluded, and a higher plan does not change that.
Google has given no date for Europe. Check Google's help pages before you pay for a plan to get it.
Google Remy AI vs Open-Source and Custom Agents
Question | Gemini Spark | Custom or open-source agent |
Control of data | Hosted by Google | You choose where it runs |
Setup effort | Low, if available | Higher, needs a skilled partner |
Availability in Germany | Not yet | Yes |
Integrations | Strong with Google Workspace | Any tool you connect |
Best for | Individuals in Google's ecosystem | Companies with their own rules and systems |
No option wins everywhere. Ask which one fits your data rules first, and the tool second. Many firms will use a ready product for personal tasks and a custom agent for business processes.
The Risks of AI Agents That Work 24/7
An agent that acts for you can also make mistakes for you. With Spark, the main risk is access: it can reach your mail, files, and shopping tools from Google's cloud. Hidden instructions in an email can also trick an agent.
Limit its access, read every approval prompt closely, and keep humans in charge of payments. For deeper reading, see our guides on prompt injection, OpenClaw guardrail failures, and agent sprawl. Personal data also brings the GDPR into play.
What German Companies Can Do Instead
You do not need to wait for Spark. Google's Gemini models reach EU companies through the Gemini API and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, though not every model runs in every region, so check first. Our post on Gemini Enterprise explains the options.
Wait or Act? A Quick Guide
If you're working in isolation, using Google Workspace, and only need support for your own Inbox and Calendar, then wait for Spark.
If you're part of a team sharing the work, or you need to store customer data, if you need rules, logs, and EU hosting, you must act now.
Use both for a custom agent to process company tasks today, and for Spark to do personal work later.
Inquire with your IT leader about which would suit your data rules. No matter which one you select, don't make a plan around something that no one has confirmed.
How to build AI Agent Plans for the future?
Things change all the time, from Remy to Spark. Make it in a manner that lasts:
Have an "open" setup model — think flexible and portable so you can switch providers
Note all actions taken and when by the agent
Check on agents and access every 3 months
